1991 Mercedes-Benz C112 prototype.

This was the spiritual successor to Mercedes’ C111 line of experimental sports cars from the ’60s and ’70s. It was powered by the then-new M120 engine, a 6.0L V12 with 400 BHP, featured active aerodynamics in the form of a retractable front lip and a giant retractable rear spoiler, active suspension, very carefully thought out aerodynamics (apart from the active bits) and many more computer controlled gizmos. There were plans for production allegedly, with Mercedes receiving 700 deposits from interested buyers, but the project was never given the green light, especially since in 1992 the global recession struck.
